Ten Commandments For The New American Century

I got these without consulting a burning bush, or even having to leave the comfort of my home. People like rules. So here is fresh set of commandments, a divine path for putting America on the straight and true. Continue reading

Conscious . . . Conscience . . .

Question of the day: How do we deal with people who are fully conscious, basically stable and mentally sound, have a conscience, but who ignore what that conscience is saying to them? Continue reading

The Bully Pulpit vs. American Idol

When presidential elections are run as beauty pageants, or talent contest spectacles like American Idol, we can’t expect real leadership. We can only expect a president who struts and works the audience, plays the judges, gives crowd-pleasing performances, and soaks up the all the love he can get. We certainly can’t expect thoughtful, principled stands on the vital issues, responding to the greater needs of the country and serving the general welfare of the public. Continue reading

Proof! Putin Fighting in the Ukraine!

To say Russia is a player in the ongoing conflict in the Ukraine is a vast understatement. The fact is PUTIN IS ACTUALLY IN THE UKRAINE LEADING THE FIGHT!! Continue reading

Russia Bad! America Good!

The white hat-black hat characterization of the crisis in the Ukraine and Putin’s role is simplistic and dangerous. Extending it to suggest that Russia’s actions are entirely malevolent and bad, America’s are similarly beneficent and good is a prescription for disaster and possibly World War III. Both America and Russia have done some foolish and deceptive things, as well as positive, constructive things. Time to retire the fairy tales. We are all saints and sinners in the game of international politics. Risking total annihilation of humankind seems like a rather high price to win this year’s Good Fairy Trophy. Continue reading

Irony Deficiency Anemia

Irony can be mildly amusing or horribly grating. The inability of our political leaders to appreciate the self-sabotaging irony of their misguided policies will ultimately destroy America as we know it. Continue reading

This Is War

War is bloody, slimy, foul, sickening, noxious, nauseating, horrifying, debilitating, degrading, disgusting, appalling, and often lethal. If it doesn’t kill you, it will change you permanently, and not for the better. But don’t tell anyone. Continue reading

Character Witness

I make no secret of this. My novel “An Unlikely Truth” has been out since mid-February of this year. Two-and-a-half years in the making, it’s not just more pulp fiction to add to the pile. I sincerely hope it makes a difference. Continue reading
