Asymmetry

Congress can impeach a president but a president can’t impeach Congress. Thus the real locus of government power resides in the Senate and the House of Representatives. Impeaching Trump will not eliminate what Trump represents. But replacing 450 corrupt pay-for-play congressman will and is how we truly make a difference that makes a difference. Continue reading

Line of Succession: Just when you thought it was safe to . . .

Trump is an easy target. But impeaching him accomplishes nothing. It merely sets up month-after-month, year-after-year of more impeachment hearings. What Trump represents will not go away just because he does. Regime change in Congress is the only option and the only viable place to focus our time, energy and creativity. There are 33 Senate seats and 435 House seats up for grabs in the 2018 election. That’s where our power resides. That’s how we mount a real revolution and turn back the tide of corporate totalitarianism. Continue reading

Warren Buffett or Jimmy Buffett?

The Warren Buffett Rule for reforming Congress is a nice idea. In fact, it’s a great idea! But it suffers from one fatal flaw. It would have to be passed by Congress. And as the record clearly shows, our current Congress will do nothing for everyday citizens. They are 100% loyal to, in fact owned by, the rich and powerful. Until we replace 95% of those currently in our legislative bodies, we can kiss good-bye any hope of getting anything done which will benefit the vast majority of us. We need to stop kidding ourselves and get to work: Regime change in Washington DC! Continue reading

A Nation of Relentless Savagery

We kill efficiently. We kill without remorse. We kill without hesitation. In 2016, the final year in office for our Nobel Peace Prize president, the U.S. dropped 26,171 bombs on seven countries, none of which have attacked America, none of which we are officially at war with. History will judge the U.S. as Martin Luther King, Jr. did in his historic address: “The greatest purveyor of violence in the world …” When you file your return on April 15th, recall that this is where a nice chunk of your tax dollars went last year. Continue reading

Megaphonics

Each of us is identified with a nation. We both have the rights and privileges that are conferred by citizenship, and likewise have a stake in what that nation does in our name, hence a responsibility not just to be aware of those activities but to be discerning, and laudatory or critical when necessary. The logical extension of this is that it is vitally important we each decide what kind of nation we want America to be, and to share that vision with others. Continue reading

Making AMERICANS Great Again!

America will become great again when Americans are great again. Americans will be great again when the impediments to individual potential are removed, and each person has the opportunity and resources available to them to participate and contribute as full and active citizens in an open, receptive, and appreciative society. Continue reading

What? Are You Crazy?

What was crazy last year sometimes becomes the new normal this year. That is the source for hope that the citizens of the U.S. can get their country back on track to serve the interests of all Americans, not just the rich and powerful. Failure is guaranteed if we don’t keep our minds open to new ideas and fresh narratives. This coming year, with the inevitable crash of the economy and even more wars, we will face unprecedented challenges. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Continue reading

Take it to the streets!

Effective street protests are no longer possible. Even Micah White, one of the founders of OWS, has declared that things have changed and we need to find different mechanisms for demanding reform. Continue reading

The Politics of Panic and Puerile Propaganda

Every day I scan the pages and websites of main stream media and nowhere can I find a discussion of truly critical issues, much less a serious attempt to address them with cogent, creative, promising solutions. This should be shocking but it’s not. It’s the new normal. Continue reading
